sell-by date shelf life 保存期限

Directions: Listen to the dialogue. lake notes and fill in the blanks with the missing information.
A Scottish couple are talking about their experience of everyday life in Malaysia. They found shopping was quite interesting. There were a sort of
raw fish and all sorts of different things
hanging there that you could just
pick up . The big problem was you really didn't know how to
ask for these things , how people bought in
quantities and what they actually
did with these things .
The man traveled every day by bus to the school he was working at, and this was considered to be dangerously
odd , because he
didn't have a car . Maybe most people didn't know
how much the bus fares were or even
what number of bus went to any particular place.
The woman was amazed at how people loved their food. They knew about all the fruit and they would
listen to it and
shake it . They knew when it was ready and when it wasn't. Whereas the Scottish people look for a
“sell-by” date , they would actually
listen to a banana, and have the
same result . Malaysian people are much more in touch with
nature and with
what they eat .
Generally people there took
great pride in everything that they did: in shops, selling things and also other sorts of skills which were available
Tailoring (成衣业) was one of the things. The
Chinese community did that, and they took great pride in making
garments (服装) , and making sure that everything was
absolutely, perfectly fitting .
Hairdressing(理发业) was another thing that was really good, because you didn't just
go in and
sit there for a quick hair wash . They would
massage your head completely for about 10 minutes and really relax you.
It's
a wonderful experience to live abroad, to witness different things. But it's
quite hard to feel part of that. The different
system of what's there makes you feel
nervous , and you could actually go there and never
experience how people live on a daily basis Most expatriates don't
get into the way that the people who live in that country permanently exist .
